In a continuous effort to engage with the community on environmental concerns, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is inviting the public to participate in a discussion on the state of walleye in Shawano Lake. Slated for February 11, the event marks the fifth assembly in the nine-part series designed to shine a spotlight on the fisheries found in the northeast of Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The meeting will focus on recent 2024 lake surveys and fish tracking studies in Shawano Lake, as well as trout stream surveys in Waupaca and Shawano counties. It will be held at Shawano Middle School, offering information about local aquatic life and management efforts. For those unable to attend in person, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is offering a virtual option via Microsoft Teams from 6 to 8 p.m. People can join either in person or online.
The "Spotlight Series" gives residents a chance to learn, get involved, and share concerns about managing local fisheries. Since fish populations reflect the health of the environment, these meetings help the public and DNR understand things better together.
