Woodbury Public Safety is taking a proactive approach to crime prevention and education by offering several free programs designed to equip the community with vital knowledge and skills. Residents have a variety of training and learning opportunities ahead, all set to take place at the Education Center of the Public Safety Building, comfortably located at 2100 Radio Drive.
According to City of Woodbury official website, the first of these sessions, titled "Sexual Exploitation: Power Over Predators," is a program put forward by Citizens Against Sex Trafficking (CAST) professionals. Aimed to broadly instruct parents and caregivers to quickly identify potential predators, this initiative provides insight into the risks associated with pornography and sexting, and the importance of being safe online. It also emphasizes ways to foster and maintain wholesome relationships. Woodbury detectives and school resource officers will be present in this meeting, poised to offer their expertise. The session is slated for Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and no registration is asked to join.
In the age where deception is but a click away, Woodbury detectives are gearing up to bring the community an interactive presentation titled "Are you Smarter than a Scammer?: Education, Trends and Prevention." They promise to unpack the complexity of scams, spotlight current trends, and diligently share preventative measures one can take to shield themselves from such deceit. The presentation will unfold on Thursday, March 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and it requires no prior registration.
Additionally, Woodbury encourages its residents to take part in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, which is a volunteer initiative leading up to preparedness whenever disaster strikes. Over six Monday evenings between March and May, hands-on training will be delivered to help volunteers cope with a range of emergencies including fires, floods, and blizzards, until professional assistance can make it to the scene. Those interested in registering for CERT can do so online for classes scheduled on March 3, 17, 31; April 14, 28; and May 12, each beginning at 6 p.m. and culminating by 8 p.m.
