Yolo County is offering a free Expungement Clinic on March 13 to assist residents with clearing their criminal records. The event, organized by the Yolo County Public Defender’s Office in collaboration with local agencies and support organizations, will be held at the Yolo County Administration Building Atrium Training Room (B02), 625 Court Street in Woodland, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as reported by Yolo County.
Amberlene Hernandez, a Senior Paralegal from the Yolo County Public Defender's Office, stated that the event aims to achieve more than just clearing records, focusing on its broader objective, "Expungement isn't just about erasing a criminal record; it's about granting individuals the opportunity to redefine their future beyond the shadow of their past mistakes," Hernandez said in a statement obtained by Yolo County. The clinic provides consultations on expunging or reducing records, sealing eligible arrest records, early termination of probation, along with information on a Certificate of Rehabilitation and 290 registry removal for eligible persons.
The Expungement Clinic's purpose stretches into areas like mental health, substance abuse, employment services, and housing assistance, fostering a more comprehensive approach to reintegration. Specialists will also be available to discuss the impact of criminal records on immigration status, offering general guidance and connecting attendees with immigration consultants for further support. The clinic is readily stack with resources from local organizations such as Legal Services of Northern California, Umoja Community, YoloWorks, and more.
Residents of Yolo and Sacramento counties who are impacted by criminal convictions are encouraged to participate in the upcoming event. The clinic will offer access to Communicare, a mental health and substance abuse program, as well as Prison 2 Employment Assistance, a service to support job searches for formerly incarcerated individuals. An attorney specializing in the impact of criminal records on immigration status will also be available to provide guidance. The event is made possible through collaboration with several organizations, including The Yolo County Children's Alliance and the Yolo County Cultural Competence Committee.
