The halls of Alderete Middle School teemed with the palpable buzz of innovation on Feb. 22 as the Canutillo ISD District Science Fair unfolded, gathering studious minds from across the district. With a focus on STEM disciplines, the event provided a platform for students in grades three through five to engage with science through hands-on stations. These activities were not only entertaining but also served as catalysts for deepening the participants' understanding of the complex tapestry that is our world.
Selected for excelling at their respective campus fairs, these young scientists presented their experiments and research, projects that, according to Canutillo ISD, wowed the judges and those in attendance. Dr. Pedro Galaviz, Superintendent, captured the essence of the event, stating, "The District Science Fair is always a great opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity while they explore the world of science." He noted the fair's role in building critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as igniting a passion for discovery in these fledgling thinkers.
Awarded for their standout contributions, the Grand Champions of the fair were Freedom Michaelson, Addilyn Engstrom, and Hailey Guardado, hailing from the third, fourth, and fifth grades, respectively. Accompanied by their peers, they represented an array of schools within the district, each student's project a testament to the creativity and dedication that marked the event. The comprehensive list of talented participants and their schools can be found on Canutillo ISD's official announcement of the science fair results.
