An incident of violence erupted outside a Manhattan high school yesterday afternoon, leaving an 18-year-old student wounded. As per ABC7 New York, the student was reportedly stabbed in the back during a dispute near the school following dismissal time. The altercation took place at the intersection of 56th Street and Tenth Avenue on the city's west side.
The teen, while stumbling upon the school safety agents, they quickly responded after seeing him in distress outside the school. According to the same source, he was subsequently transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, police officials confirmed that one individual has been taken into custody in connection with the stabbing.
Further details provided by a New York Post report identified the student as an attendee of Martin Luther King High School. The attack occurred at approximately 3:02 p.m., about ten blocks south of where the victim is schooled. Despite not being clear on the connection between the person of interest and either the victim or the school, officers stationed at nearby Independence High School, spotted the injured teen, as they were mere yards away. "The teen was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition," the New York Post mentioned.
As the investigation proceeds, the NYPD is yet to disclose any motives or the nature of the dispute that led up to the stabbing. The involvement of the person in custody with the victim or the school remains a subject to be determined by ongoing police inquiries.
