An 18-year-old Long Beach resident was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of 32-year-old Edgar Ortiz-Escamilla that occurred in Long Beach on February 16, according to KTLA. The suspect, identified as John Paul Mcintyre III, was taken into custody at a Los Angeles residence on Friday, with the Long Beach Police Department setting his bail at $3 million.
Officers had responded to a shots call around 4:30 p.m. on the date of the incident, finding evidence of the shooting, and shortly after, two male adult victims were admitted to a local hospital with gunshot wounds linked to the crime scene. As reported by the LBPD, the shooting resulted in the death of Ortiz-Escamilla, and the other victim survived.
The Long Beach Police Department shared that the homicide detectives suspect the shooting may be gang-related, however, they are still meticulously piecing together the motive and circumstances of the shooting through an ongoing investigation.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Homicide Detectives, Eric Thai and Chasen Contreras, as the pursuit of justice for the deceased requires community cooperation, people with potentially crucial information can reach out anonymously through "LA Crime Stoppers" or by making direct contact with the detectives, according to the statement released by the Long Beach Police Department.
