A tragic early morning crash in Fayette County has claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman and left a man hospitalized. Reports from Audacy confirm that Madison Porfilio died at the scene after the vehicle she was a passenger in collided with a utility pole on Route 40. The incident occurred near the Kwik Fill station in Menallen Township around 1:30 a.m.
The Fayette County coroner communicated to WTAE the identity of the deceased as Madison Porfilio, emphasizing that she was the passenger in the car that struck the Kwik Fill sign. The accident led to both Porfilio and the driver being ejected from the vehicle. A resident, Travis Musgrave, recounted the extent of the wreckage, saying, "I've never seen a motor come out of a car and go that far away from it. I just clean all across the parking lot over there. And, that shocked me."
Further details of the crash indicate that the vehicle was heavily damaged, and the impact force dislodged the engine, scattering debris across the vicinity. As informed by Observer-Reporter, speeding is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash. Trooper Rocco Gagliardi of the state police, leading the ongoing investigation, noted that they believe excessive speed may have played a role.
The driver, a 25-year-old man whose identity has not been released, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., following the incident. The condition of the injuries sustained remains unknown.
