Department of Transportation has greenlit a contract with Sunrock Industries LLC, funneling $5 million into enhancements for over 22 miles of roadways crisscrossing the area. Specifically, the plan includes a bit of everything from milling to resurfacing, and shoulder reconstruction. Busy arteries like U.S. 15 Business will get the treatment from Ramseur St all the way to E. Forest Hills Blvd, and also between E. Lakewood Ave. and E. Main St. Don't think the highways are being neglected—westbound U.S. 70 Business and the stretch of U.S. 70 Business between S. Buchanan Blvd. and Morgan Street to Great Jones St are on the agenda. Plus, not to be overlooked, are 31 sections of secondary roads. According to a release by the NCDOT, these upgrades should kick off sometime this year and wrap up by fall 2026.
