
An east Charlotte neighborhood was unsettled by the sound of gunfire yesterday evening as a 9-year-old boy was seriously injured in what has been reported as an accidental shooting. According to WCNC, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Copper Creek Court, near Albemarle Road. The child was swiftly taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Further details provided by QC News confirm emergency responders were called to the 5700 block of Copper Creek Court shortly before the tragic event unfolded. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers promptly arrived on the scene to address the emergency and to quickly begin to gather evidence and details of the shooting.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has, according to their own incident report, deemed the shooting accidental. At this time, the specifics behind the gun's discharge are still unclear.
In a statement MEDIC provided to WSOCTV, the nine-year-old was transported to Atrium with injuries that were reported as life-threatening. The ongoing investigation seeks to unravel the conditions that led to the incident, and there is a current effort to find out more about potential charges related to the shooting.
