The altercation occurred this past Sunday just after 4:00 p.m. near Alessandro Boulevard and Mission Grove Parkway, as per ABC7. A driver, claimed to have been unintentionally cut off, retaliated by following the victim to the coffee shop's drive-thru. It escalated quickly; the driver allegedly initiated physical violence.
In a flash of defensive response, the victim - finding his personal space invaded and his neck ensnared by the assailant's grasp - reached for a knife and delivered a wound to the arm of his attacker. The exact ownership of the knife remains unclear, but following the incident, Riverside Police Department Officer Ryan Railsback disclosed to KTLA that only the suspect was taken into custody. Notably bleeding from a wound on his left arm, the man who allegedly started the altercation attempted unsuccessfully to evade law enforcement by hiding behind a shopping center dumpster.
A video, surfacing in the wake of the incident, captures the scene of a man in handcuffs, seemingly in pain from the injury sustained. Both individuals involved were dispatched to a local hospital, as confirmed by police. The suspect, upon being discharged, is expected to face assault charges. Meanwhile, the victim of the alleged chokehold was also treated and subsequently released.
