Anderson High School is set to resume classes quickly and return to regular operations today, following an unscheduled closure caused by a burst fire sprinkler head that caused widespread electrical issues. The Forest Hills School District confirmed this information, which addressed the incident and subsequent repairs that led to the ten-day closure of the high school facilities, affecting students and staff alike.
According to a statement obtained by WLWT, the school experienced significant water damage after a sprinkler head burst from freezing temperatures, leading to water exposure on multiple parts of the building's electrical system. This prompted an immediate response from maintenance teams and outside contractors to ensure the safety of returning individuals. The district emphasized their commitment to student safety and academic support throughout the closure and upon return to normal operations.
Superintendent Larry Hook expressed gratitude to the school's maintenance and custodial staff for their diligent efforts to ensure a safe reopening. "At Forest Hills School District, safety is always our most important priority," Hook said in a statement shared by WCPO. The school successfully passed the two final outside inspections on Friday, signaling that power had been fully restored and that it could safely operate again.
Hook also touched on the academic impact of the closure and urged parents and students to contact school staff for assistance with academic progress freely. "Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers, the counseling office or the Anderson administrative team if you have any questions about your child’s academic progress," Hook told WLWT. He also underscored the importance of advisory times and after-school opportunities to review coursework, reinforcing the school's commitment to assisting students in getting back on track academically.
Commending the school district's collective efforts, Hook remarked on the collaboration that took place during the work. "This was a major undertaking, and there are countless people to thank for their involvement in getting Anderson High School back open and for supporting students during the closure," he commented in a statement obtained by WCPO. With the reinstatement of the Experience Program, the Transition to Work Program, and a full slate of extracurricular activities and athletics, the entire Forest Hills community anticipates the return to a sense of normality at Anderson High School.
