Annapolis police have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect, identified as 31-year-old Roscoe Jerome Jones of Oxon Hill, Maryland, in connection with a shooting that tragically claimed the life of one adult male and injured an 11-year-old boy near a school bus stop. The shooting occurred yesterday morning, prompting a heavy police response to the 100 block of Clay Street, as reported by WBALTV.
The victim, 36-year-old John Simms Jr., died at the scene. At the same time, the child sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital. In the aftermath of the incident, Annapolis Police, along with the U.S. Marshals, heightened efforts to locate Jones, who remains at large, with the Annapolis Police Department cautioning the public to avoid approaching the suspect and instead "call 9-1-1," a directive sourced from FOX Baltimore.
Witnesses to the tragedy, which included several young children, conveyed their shock and dismay, with one resident, Harold Lloyd, speaking to CBS Baltimore, expressing concern for the traumatic impact on the kids "by seeing that, them going to school and thinking about that," capturing a sentiment shared across the community. Anne Arundel County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell deemed the shooting "unacceptable" and underscored the need for communal action, stating in an impassioned plea, "Enough is enough."
The Annapolis Police Department is advising anyone with information on Jones' whereabouts to come forward, embracing community cooperation as a foundational step toward seeking justice for the victims.
