Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) have revealed the finalists for their annual awards, which recognize excellence among educators and administrators. The shortlists for Teacher, Principal, and Assistant Principal of the Year comprise some of the most dedicated personnel from the school system's vast workforce.
The winners will be announced live at the distinguished Champions for Children Celebration Gala, which will take place on April 23 at the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson. A statement detailed by WMAR2 News stated that the finalists for Teacher of the Year were selected from a field of 155 nominees. Similarly, the hunt for Principal of the Year saw 883 nominations, while Assistant Principal of the Year had a considerable 624 submissions, demonstrating the community's engagement in acknowledging the education leaders.
"These are the very best educators and administrators anywhere, and we are honored to celebrate them, their talents, and their dedication to providing the best opportunities possible for our young people," BCPS Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers said in a release shared by NottinghamMD. The honorees reflect BCPS' dedication, with Brittany Kolb, Brittany Jakubowski, and Nathaniel Eugene leading as Teacher of the Year finalists. They represent the culmination of talent, having emerged as top candidates for their respective educational tiers within the school system.
The principal category features notable leaders like Scott Conway, Amanda Shanks, and Kieran O’Connell, each credited as their school level's Outstanding Principal of the Year. Assistant Principals Amber Cook, Sheila Luechtefeld, and Angela Berry have been lauded for their exemplary service and leadership. According to the official Baltimore County Public Schools social media post, the event will honor these standout individuals and others who contribute to the educational community, including a "Rising Star" Teacher of the Year and a Transportation Champion, among others.
