The string of coyote attacks in Bellevue has been the center of community distress as local wildlife officials report two coyotes have been euthanized after a series of aggressive encounters. According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), both animals were put down due to their perceived threat to public safety, as reported by KING5. The incidents in question included three people being bitten, leaving a palpable sense of unease among Bellevue residents.
Last week’s attacks culminated in the euthanasia of the first coyote on Wednesday, followed by the second on Thursday. Local officials have not released details on how the coyotes were identified as the ones responsible for the attacks, but stress the actions were taken to prevent further harm to the community. On March 6-7, a man and woman sustained injuries from coyote encounters, as detailed by FOX 13 Seattle.
In a disturbing event outside the girl's home, a coyote bit and attempted to drag the child. "She about to pet on the dog at that time, and with just one second, the coyote just bit her hand and tried to drag her," the girl's father, Chang Tong, told FOX8. "The child was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released that same night."
