The Blaine Police Department has recently announced the full operation of its Victim Services Program, an initiative designed to offer comprehensive support to those affected by crime. The program, which comes to life thanks to funding from the International Association of Chiefs of Police, aims to provide immediate aid and long-term assistance to victims in the Blaine community.
According to a Blaine Police Department release, Andrea Donaldson, the department's new victim services specialist, has quickly begun to fulfill her duties since late November. She's been reaching out to thoroughly build relationships within the department and with key community partners to specifically tailor a program that will bridge the often too-wide gap between crime victims and law enforcement. Immediate services offered by the program include emotional support, crisis counseling, safety planning, and access to emergency resources to ensure victims' safety and well-being right after traumatic events.
The program further acknowledges the need to address more enduring impacts of crime, such as PTSD and anxiety. Fostering connections with therapeutic resources and support groups contributes to building a more resilient Blaine community. "Victim services also enhances training for officers by incorporating insights from victim interactions, ensuring a compassionate and supportive approach to those affected by crime" stated the release.
