
A tragic incident unfolded last Thursday evening when a 31-year-old man from Carleton was fatally struck by a vehicle. The tragedy occurred on Telegraph Road near Carleton Rockwood Road in Monroe County, with Michigan State Police arriving at the scene around 8:30 p.m. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was pronounced dead at the accident site, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
According to Michigan State Police, a 39-year-old Carleton woman, who was found driving a Ford Escape northbound on Telegraph, hit the pedestrian "walking in or near the roadway", as per statements obtained by ClickOnDetroit. The driver of the Ford, who reportedly suffered no injuries, stayed at the crash site and cooperated with the authorities. Telegraph Road was closed for hours while an on-scene investigation was conducted by troopers, disrupting traffic.
The driver's involvement in the accident, which seems to be causing no suspicion of impairment from alcohol or drugs, is not believed to be under the influence by police at the time of the crash. This detail was reported by both WTOL and ClickOnDetroit.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Ash Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the Michigan Department of Transportation, with help from MSP, haven't shared more details about the incident yet.
