The Ceres Police Department took a few street-racers off the roads earlier this month—with two getting nabbed amid their fast-paced exploits and another caught a week later. In a recent social media post, the department detailed how on the night of March 14th, Officer Lord-Huff spotted three vehicles lined side by side on Highway 99 at Hatch Road—clear indicators of a race about to go down.
Racing enthusiasts unaware of the law's reach hit speeds of around 100 mph southbound on Highway 99. Officer Lord-Huff gave chase, and two vehicles pulled over, getting arrested with their cars impounded for 30 days. However, a black Ford Mustang ignored the stop and sped off, continuing southbound.
Under California Vehicle Code 14602.7(a)(1), vehicles involved in illegal street racing can be impounded for 30 days with a judge's approval. On March 21, Officer Gallenkamp found the Mustang that had fled during the previous week's bust. It was towed and impounded following the court-ordered seizure.
