Charlotte Fire Department Tackles Two-Alarm Blaze at Former Morehead Tavern in UptownSource: Facebook/Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte NC

A former Uptown tavern was the site of a significant two-alarm fire this morning, with the Charlotte Fire Department responding to the incident at a building on East Morehead Street near South Boulevard just before 8 a.m., WBTV reports.

The Morehead Tavern experienced flames and smoke as local firefighters worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further in the Uptown district. A second alarm was issued shortly after their arrival. A section of E. Morehead Street between Euclid Ave. and S. Tryon Street was closed, resulting in a detour for morning traffic, this according to a recount by WCNC.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage in the 300 block of East Morehead Street near Caldwell Street. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has advised the public to navigate the area cautiously and avoid the affected zone.

No injuries have been reported following the incident. "Fortunately, no injuries were reported," confirmed Medic, according to a brief from QC News.
