Earlier today in Charlotte's Providence Division, law enforcement responded to a deadly assault. According to the official statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, detectives are currently investigating a homicide that took place in the 3400 block of Burkland Drive.
Officers were dispatched after receiving a call about an assault with a deadly weapon around 2 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a victim suffering from stab wounds. Despite rapid transportation by MEDIC to Novant Presbyterian Medical Center, the victim's injuries proved fatal, and they were pronounced dead by the attending medical staff.
The CMPD has mobilized its Homicide Unit detectives to delve into the case. Simultaneously, the Crime Scene Search team is collecting evidence in the hope of piecing together the events that culminated in tragedy. Alongside these efforts, a variety of teams, including CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD), MEDIC, and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team have joined the investigation.
