A string of events culminating in the arrest of a 15-year-old suspect unfolded mere days ago, following an armed robbery incident in Columbus. The report, disseminated by the Columbus Division of Police via social media, detailed a high-stakes confrontation on Wednesday, shortly past the witness hour of 11 p.m.
Malaki Lightfoot, the teenager implicated in the assessed wrongdoing, allegedly approached a victim within a parking lot on North High St., armed and demanding keys. After that, he supposedly entered a nearby store to hurriedly and unlawfully expropriate items from behind the counter before attempting to escape on foot. A timely operation by officers later led to Malaki's apprehension while driving a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Cleveland Ave. & E. 11th Ave.
The subsequent traffic stop at Greenwich St. & Republic Ave.. was more than a momentary halt in a young man's journey; it was the decisive moment of a larger investigation taking shape in real time. Malaki Lightfoot was taken into custody without further incident. Columbus Police, conveying the sequence of events via their official communication channels, emphasized the recovery of evidence that they believe connects Lightfoot to the earlier robbery.
The victim's face-to-face identification at the scene of the stop was enough to tie Lightfoot securely to the alleged crime. Police say that this confrontation resulted in Lightfoot being identified as the perpetrator. Subsequently, he has been charged with multiple felonies, including Aggravated Robbery and Carrying a Concealed Weapon, among other charges. The news of these developments was first issued to the public at midnight today.
