Motorists in Fayette County can expect some disruptions starting this coming Monday, as PennDOT kicks off a series of traffic signal upgrades along Route 119 (Memorial Boulevard) in Connellsville. The $2.4 million infrastructure investment, as announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 12, will involve daytime single-lane restrictions from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, weekdays, beginning today. The upgrades are set to take place between Route 711 (Crawford Avenue) and Pittsburgh Street, Ext. (Route 1031).

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the work is expected to span through October, though this timeline is dependent on both weather conditions and operations. Commuters should brace for potential delays in the area, especially when crews from Bruce & Merrilees Electric Company must perform brief, full stoppages of traffic. These are necessary for installing new signal mast arms and related utility work.

The construction effort includes the complete replacement of traffic signals at the McDonald's and Pittsburgh Street (Route 1037) intersections, as well as enhancements for the signals at several other local streets. Enhanced intersections will include Route 201 (Vanderbilt Road), Route 711 (Crawford Avenue), Shopping Plaza Drive, and York Avenue/Water Street (Route 1037), which are getting updated with new sidewalks, ADA ramps, pavement markings, and signs.
