
Corpus Christi resident Sunny Ray Garcia, 27, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. This was confirmed by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei, as per a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Garcia, who pleaded guilty last November, 21, 2024, will also endure four years of supervised release following his prison term, a judgment handed down by U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos, she during the proceedings evaluated Garcia's lengthy track record of convictions, comprising aggravated sexual assault of a child, burglary, and drug offenses.
The case against Garcia solidified in January 2023 when law enforcement identified him as involved in narcotics distribution, then on January 25, they executed an undercover buy, which resulted in the seizure of over 11 grams of meth later validated by tests, the DEA, working alongside the Corpus Christi Police Department, brought Garcia into custody; furthermore, upon his arrest in February 2023, police found a stolen firearm in his vehicle.
Following proceedings, Garcia is awaiting transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility, which will be determined.
