The North Carolina Department of Insurance has officially ushered in a new chapter, with Commissioner Mike Causey announcing the appointment of David Yetter as the new deputy commissioner and chief actuary. Boasting a composite of government and private sector experience spanning over a quarter-century, Yetter steps into this pivotal role, aiming to uphold the department’s standards of professionalism and expertise.
Having joined the NCDOI back in May 2018, Yetter has since been a part of the Actuarial Services Division, sharpening his skills and showcasing his mastery in insurance industry analytics. According to a statement from the North Carolina Department of Insurance, Commissioner Causey expressed confidence in Yetter's abilities, “I am proud to appoint David to this role, due to his level of expertise,” he noted, reflecting on Yetter’s extensive background.
Yetter’s roots trace back to Oklahoma City, where he sprouted his academic journey, culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from Oklahoma State University in 1998. Syncing with his new duties, David Yetter’s affiliation with the Society of Actuaries and American Academy of Actuaries speaks to his professional depth and commitment to actuarial science.
Replacing the now-retired Rick Kohan, who left office last Saturday, Yetter's new role at the department includes the intricate oversight of rate, form, and statistical filings, along with spearheading actuarial studies vital for the financial health and regulatory compliance of insurance companies. The Actuarial Services Division, now under Yetter’s guidance, functions as a backbone, ensuring financial prudence within the industry. In his efforts to sustain the division’s reputed proficiency, Yetter remarked through the North Carolina Department of Insurance, "I know he will continue to maintain the high level of professionalism found in the division."
