Beginning today, the Colorado Department of Transportation is teaming up with Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement to kick off The Heat Is On DUI enforcement initiative, which runs through March 19. Those traveling across Colorado can expect to encounter sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols, an uptick in officers on duty with a clear directive, apprehend those driving under the influence.
In the spirit of the holiday, CDOT isn't just flexing its enforcement muscles, they're also playing fairy godmother to Denver's party-goers. At the St. Patrick's Day Parade this Saturday, CDOT will distribute rideshare credits and safe driving resources in partnership with AAA Colorado, OtterBox, and Gills Point S Tire & Auto Service. According to CDOT, lucky attendees could walk away with a $10 Uber credit, discounts on mobile device mounts, or even a $50 discount on new tires, all in the name of promoting safe driving practices.
But, this is more than a game of chance. CDOT is driving home a serious message, plan a sober ride home. In the orgy of green-themed revelry, they encourage everyone to utilize rideshare services or public transportation, like RTD, to avoid the DUI trap. For those hosting St. Patrick's Day shindigs, there's a call to arms to ensure all guests have a sober ride lined up for their journey home.
