For the third time in recent months, the Jazz Cannabis Club, a family-owned dispensary in Detroit, has been victim to a brazen robbery. The latest incident occurred early Saturday morning. Owner George Brikho was alerted by his alarm company around 6:30 a.m. to a break-in, and by the time police arrived shortly after, the thieves had already cleared out approximately $100,000 worth of product.
According to details shared by CBS News Detroit, surveillance footage showed five suspects forcing entry and making off with as much inventory as possible. Despite this setback, and the lingering financial toll of multiple robberies, the business remained open, with Brikho and his staff diligently taking inventory of the lost goods. Investing in a sense of hope amidst the upheaval, a $10,000 reward has been offered by Mr. Brikho for information leading to the capture of the perpetrators.
George Brikho described the break-in to FOX 2 Detroit, "We got a call that there were five males who had entered the building." He further explained the extent of the damage: the security door was ripped off, the entry door broken, and various items within the store were shattered. Despite their swift response, Detroit Police were unable to catch the well-practiced criminals, who executed their heist with alarming precision and speed.
"It's really frustrating. We're here trying to make a living where it's, it's a it's a struggle," Brikho told WXYZ. The community has shown immense support for the Jazz Club, reinforcing the familial bonds that tie the establishment to its clientele. Despite the tribulations cast upon them by thieves, Brikho maintains that business endures: "The show must go on."
Anyone with information regarding the break-ins is strongly encouraged to get in touch with the Detroit Police Department or directly contact the Jazz Cannabis Club at (313) 636-2582. There remains the hope that through community effort and vigilance, those responsible will be held to account for their actions against this local business.
