Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S. Inc. faces legal scrutiny following a lawsuit filed last week related to a 2023 investigation into a former employee's alleged inappropriate conduct. According to WFTV, Disney is accused of not taking appropriate measures to prevent Jorge Diaz Vega from filming up the skirts of female guests. Court documents state that he took a video of a girl's dress at the park's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge marketplace while the victim, then 14 years old, was looking at toys with her grandmother.
Diaz Vega's alleged actions while employed at a Star Wars retail store over six years included recording more than 600 images and videos found on his mobile device. After being arrested and admitting to his actions, which he described as a "guilty pleasure," Criminal Attorney Jose Rivas suggested that Disney's neglect in supervising Diaz Vega could make them liable. "All they have to prove is that the individual was working during the term of employment, they committed this act, and Disney had a duty to investigate him," Rivas stated, as per WFTV.
According to FOX 35 Orlando, the lawsuit filed by the victim's grandparent in the Circuit Court of the Ninth Judicial Circuit seeks a judgment exceeding $50,000 and a jury trial. The plaintiff alleges that Diaz Vega was previously caught recording a female employee, which had been reported to a Disney supervisor, yet conflicts with the company's failure to adequately supervise him despite such incidents.
