In a somber announcement yesterday, Doña Ana County leaders confirmed their support for the community following a violent shooting at Young Park in Las Cruces, an event that shook residents and resulted in tragic fatalities. County Manager Scott Andrews was quoted, as obtained by Doña Ana County, "This is a heartbreaking and deeply painful moment for our community. We are devastated by the loss of young lives and the trauma experienced by so many." The county, in conjunction with the City of Las Cruces, has vowed to support residents as they cope with the aftermath of the horrific incident.
Scott Andrews spoke on how the incident's effects have reverberated through the community, stating, "The County is in close contact with the City of Las Cruces, and together, we will do everything we can to support our residents in the days and weeks ahead. Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of those lost, those injured, and everyone affected by this unthinkable tragedy," as per Doña Ana County. Residents in need are being reminded of the availability of support services, including the 988 Crisis Line, which offers round-the-clock emotional support, and the walk-in mental health services provided by the Doña Ana County Crisis Triage Center for adults 18 and over experiencing a crisis.
As the community continues to grapple with the aftermath of the shooting, additional resources are being mobilized to offer relief and assist in the healing process. The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, another integral part of the county's supportive framework, is accepting donations directed towards the victims and their families. Donations, which can provide vital aid during this time of need, can be made through the foundation's website or by contacting them via phone, as detailed by Doña Ana County.
