As Women's History Month winds down, the City of Duncanville, Texas, takes a moment to spotlight Officer Michelle Arias as their final Woman of the Week, a tribute shared on the municipal government's social media platform. The Parks and Recreation team and other city departments joined forces to commemorate the achievements of remarkable women like Arias, who are deeply engaged in bettering the Duncanville community.
Arias, whose career began in law enforcement as a Detention Officer for Dallas and Tarrant Counties, took up her role in the Duncanville Police Department in 2014, starting to rise quickly. Her dedication manifested in transitioning to Community Relations/Crime Prevention Officer, where she hinges on a bridge of trust between citizens and the law enforcement community. Programs such as the Citizens Police Academy and Citizens on Patrol fall under her purview, as she serves as the department's Public Information Officer.
Her passion for community service is attributed to the values instilled by her mother, which urge giving back and spreading joy—a virtue she carries forward. Officer Arias further credits former Chief Robert D. Brown, Jr. for his support in her move towards community relations work. One hallmark of her tenure has been the establishment of the Unidos Program, aimed at better engaging with and assisting the Spanish-speaking residents of Duncanville to foster transparency and stronger community ties.
Away from her official duties, Arias is committed to her fitness routine and treasures spending time with her family. She aims to instill the values of service and volunteerism in her children. Regarding passing on wisdom to the next generation, Arias doesn't hesitate, as she pointedly states, "Follow your dreams-everything is possible through discipline and consistency," according to the City of Duncanville's release.
