Eagle Pass CBP Officers Arrest Previously Deported Mexican National on Alien Smuggling ConvictionSource: Google Street View

The latest move comes as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry in Texas detained a man with a checkered past in immigration law violation. This individual, a 48-year-old Mexican citizen, was previously deported after being convicted of alien smuggling.

The apprehension took place this Monday, at the Eagle Pass International Bridge. It began rather unassumingly, with the man presenting himself as a U.S. citizen. However, officers sensed that something was amiss, leading to a more thorough examination in a secondary inspection area. According to CBP's news release, it's here where his true identity, and lack of valid entry documents, came to light. The narrative twists further: he had not only been deported previously but had served over four years in prison for his roles in smuggling humans.

Pete Beattie, Port Director at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry, shed light on the agency's ongoing vigilance. "Our frontline officers continue to exercise vigilance while screening arriving travelers and their inspection skills and experience uncovered a significant immigration violation for someone who had been previously removed for alien smuggling," he explained in the CBP news release.

After his arrest during a secondary inspection, CBP officers launched a criminal investigation into his possible immigration violations. This case highlights the complexity of immigration issues, especially when past crimes affect current crossings, and the challenges border officers face dealing with people attempting to bypass immigration controls.
