At a border security roundtable in Eagle Pass, Governor Greg Abbott joined Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to review border security operations. Abbott praised Texas' border security efforts and stated that a change in administration was necessary to address the immigration situation, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
Governor Abbott emphasized that "Texas serves as a model for border security." He stated that "Now with a partner in the White House, law enforcement at all levels of government can work together to defend our southern border and put an end to the unprecedented border crisis created by the Biden Administration." The roundtable focused on strengthening collaboration between Texas and the federal government on homeland security and immigration enforcement, as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
The Eagle Pass event brought together top officials and local leaders, including Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks, U.S. Acting Commissioner Pete Flores, Congressman Tony Gonzales, Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr., and National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez. Vice President Vance praised Governor Abbott and Texas' Operation Lone Star, which has focused on border security for four years. Discussions covered efforts to arrest, detain, and deport illegal immigrants and prevent drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl. These initiatives were described as part of the broader goal to "make America safe again," as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
