Eden Prairie’s City Council recently appointed and reappointed several commission members who will soon be advising on matters from heritage preservation to sustainability. At the meeting, which was held on Tuesday, new faces and veterans alike were tasked with roles that kick off on the first of April, reports the city’s official website. Among the appointees are Lisa Rude and Prima Sissini for Heritage Preservation, while the Human Rights and Diversity Commission will welcome Shalanda Berry, Danielle Burton-Haselrig, and Wendi Russo. Notably, for Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources, Sana Elassar, Giridhar Kuppili, and Lisa Nichols have signed on, with Daniel Hendrickson and Alexis Junker stepping into Sustainability positions.

Several existing members will continue to serve, maintaining some institutional memory on the commissions. Marc Morhack retains a spot on the Flying Cloud Airport Advisory, and Heritage Preservation will still benefit from Andy Ludowese's expertise. The Human Rights and Diversity Commission won’t have to say goodbye yet to Babar Khan, Jody Knight, and Brenda Pfahnl. For those with an eye on Eden Prairie’s green spaces, Pedro Curry remains in the Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Commission. Meanwhile, Daniel Grote, John Kirk, and Frank Sherwood will keep on planning, and Tim Conners is sticking with Sustainability, all according to the city's announcement.

Beyond commission appointments, the city is partnering with Tree Trust for an Annual Tree Sale, slinging deals to residents for trees that can adorn their private property. From 4 to 8 feet in height, these trees will become available for pickup on April 26 at the Flying Cloud Fields.

In the cultural beat, nominations are now open for the 2025 Heritage Preservation Award, which is meant to honor those contributing to Eden Prairie's history through the preservation and restoration of its locales. "Recognizes an individual, family or business who has made an outstanding contribution to the preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and use of Eden Prairie’s heritage resources," the city notes, with a deadline set for April 7, details available at edenprairie.org/HeritageAward.

Up next on the city's social calendar, fish enthusiasts or just plain hungry folk can drop by the Let's Go Fishing fish fry at St. Andrew Church. Then, prepare to glide into a phantasmagoria with "DreamWorld on Ice," presented by the Eden Prairie Figure Skating Club. The Community Band tops off the entertainment offerings with a diverse concert, free of charge — "A Mosaic of Music" — covering an eclectic mix from classical to rock at Central Middle School Performing Arts Center on March 16.

Looking forward, the Planning Commission won't be meeting on March 10 as scheduled, presumably giving planners a brief respite. However, the Sustainability Commission and Human Rights and Diversity Commission will convene on March 11 and 13, respectively, to discuss their advancing agendas, details noted in the city's press release.
