March has rolled around once again, and with it, the arrival of new property valuations for Hennepin County residents. According to a recent report by the City of Eden Prairie, homeowners should now be receiving their 2025 Property Tax Statements based on last year's assessment, which will inform the taxes they must pay this year. The report also observes that the local Assessing Division adjusts market values looking at real estate sales on similar properties from the previous year. Questions regarding property valuation can be addressed to the city's assessing staff at 952-949-8511.
Shifting to sustainability efforts, the Eden Prairie High School National Honor Society and the city's Sustainability Commission are collaborating on a Free Clothing Swap. Slated for March 22, no donation is required to shop, and both child and adult sizes are accepted, as stated in the report by the City of Eden Prairie. Leftover items in usable condition will be donated, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Intending to foster community and environmental responsibility, all participants are expected to circulate clothes that are free from stains and rips.
Community involvement does not stop at clothing swaps in Eden Prairie. The city is calling on volunteers once more for its annual Park Clean-Up Event. Interested locals can contribute between April 7 and 13. The city emphasizes the significance of this event as an opportunity for residents to directly impact their environment and public spaces. Signing up by April 10 is mandatory for those looking to contribute; a detailed list of available parks for the clean-up efforts is available for those ready to roll up their sleeves.
Water quality and safety remain top priorities, as evidenced by the upcoming public meeting focusing on the City’s Wellhead Protection Plan. Scheduled for March 24, this assembly seeks to educate and gather community insights into the measures necessary to safeguard the city's drinking water from contamination. Residents' participation is not only welcomed but also crucial in ensuring the ongoing protection of a vital resource.
And in strides towards community safety and well-being, the Eden Prairie Police Department's partnership with Hennepin County has borne fruit. Molly Mitley, a full-time social worker embedded with the EPPD since 2022, has exemplified the crucial bridge between law enforcement and social services. In 2024 alone, Mitley processed 467 referrals and assisted 380 individuals, as detailed by the City of Eden Prairie's release. With mental health support demands rising, the department has received a state grant to hire a second embedded social worker in 2025, a testament to the program's success and necessity.
As municipal activities continue to shape daily community life, Eden Prairie's civic engagement does not wane. Upcoming meetings of the Heritage Preservation Commission and the City Council are on the slate for March 17 and 18 respectively, followed by the Planning Commission on March 24. The gatherings, which are open to public participation, will address various city matters and long-term planning initiatives, ensuring that citizen voices are heard at multiple levels of local governance.
