The City of Edmond is gearing up to join hands with the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Tire Reclamation project on April 5. This initiative, set in concert with the Route 66 Midpoint Corridor and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, aims to address the persistent issue of discarded tires blighting our shared landscapes. Cox Communications sponsors the eco-friendly effort which allows locals to dispose of old tires without cost, according to the City of Edmond.
In the spirit of community and sustainability, Edmond residents are invited to participate in this environmental stewardship by bringing their old tires to Edmond Electric headquarters at 2004 Old Timbers Drive, from the early hours of 8 a.m. till the midday mark of 12 p.m. To demonstrate their eligibility, residents are prompted, having to present a copy of their utility bill or their driver's license as proof of Edmond residence, as eported by the City of Edmond.
Adding to the communal effort, volunteers are to aid in the tire collection process, diligently ensuring that the forsaken tires are appropriately recycled or disposed of. As part of the reclaiming procedure as cited by the City of Edmond official announcement, Edmond's citizens must comply with three specific requirements. They should remove all tires from rims since only the tire itself will be accepted, ensure that no tractor or large implement tires are brought in, and be reminded that this event is strictly for individuals, no businesses allowed.
Preceding Earth Month festivities, the tire cleanup event constitutes a segment of a larger "Keep Route 66 Beautiful" initiative, aimed to invigorate a 400-mile stretch of the iconic Route 66. The City of Edmond confirmed in their announcement that, spanning from April 1-5, this cleaning crusade will sweep across several towns, including Davenport, Stroud, Bristow, Kelleyville, Sapulpa, and of course, Edmond. The overall mission is sculpting a more pristine journey for travelers along this legendary road in time for its centennial celebration in 2026.
