El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte announced via social media the arrest of an individual involved in a significant identity theft and forgery operation. During a routine traffic stop on Tuesday, deputies in East El Paso stumbled upon evidence leading to the apprehension of Richard Allen Jenkins, 42. According to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, Jenkins was found with an array of illegal materials, including forged driver’s licenses, stolen mail, fraudulent checks, Social Security cards, and even a printer for manufacturing fake IDs and checks.
Jenkins now faces serious charges: "Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information (50+ counts), Theft of Mail, and Forgery of a Financial Instrument," as per El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, with his bond set at $45,000. The scale of Jenkins’ operation has sparked a collaborative investigation with the U.S. Postal Inspector, and, as Ugarte indicated, there is the potential for additional state and federal charges. The obsession with which individuals like Jenkins operate is akin to an alchemist's pursuit of transmutation, turning the mundane into something nefariously valuable.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office remains vigilant against such transgressions. "We remain committed to protecting our community from fraud and identity theft," as obtained by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. The case not only highlights the dedication of local law enforcement but also serves as a stark reminder of the necessity for public awareness concerning personal information security.
