
Authorities in El Paso have made a significant arrest in a murder case that has rattled the community. Eric Lamarr Mathis was apprehended on Monday about the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Edward Daquan Smith. Smith's life was abruptly ended on February 28 after a dispute spun out of control into violence, resulting in him being shot and ultimately succumbing to his wounds at the 2100 block of Setting Sun, as reported by the El Paso Police Department.
The night of the incident, a large gathering spiraled into chaos, reports claim an argument broke out, which rapidly escalated into gunfire while Smith, amongst others, was present at the site, the aftermath saw the wounded young man left behind as the crowd dispersed and police would then find upon their arrival, this according to the preliminary findings shared by police. The El Paso County Detention Facility is now Mathis's temporary residence as he awaits due process for the murder charge. Police are still actively piecing together the circumstances of that fateful night and encourage those with any knowledge to step forward.
