The victim, an 87-year-old man from Rogers City, was crossing the road with a flashlight when he was struck by an oncoming dirt bike. The young rider, whose age has not been disclosed, was traveling northbound without a headlight. The collision occurred as the man reached the mailbox on the east side of the road. According to the Michigan State Police (MSP), the dirt bike rider did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
The man's condition remains critical, with Audacy reporting yesterday afternoon that he was airlifted to a hospital. It is unclear what, if any, consequences the juvenile rider may face. The incident has raised questions about roadway safety and the responsibilities of both riders and drivers, though Michigan State Police (MSP) officials have not yet commented on whether charges may be filed.
Law enforcement and first responders arrived at the scene to assist. In addition to MSP troopers from the Alpena and Gaylord Posts, the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Office, Rogers City Police Department, Rogers City Ambulance, and Rogers City Area First Responders were involved in the response to the accident.
