April in Englewood means one thing: a whole month dedicated to appreciating and improving our planet. A slew of events from compost workshops to river clean-ups are set to inspire and engage the community towards a greener lifestyle. The city's Parks, Recreation, Library and Golf department, and the Sustainability division have teamed up to offer residents a chance to learn and actively participate in various sustainability-focused activities.
Kicking off the events, a composting workshop will be held at Depot Park on Saturday, March 29, led by local master composter Joe Fleener alongside Englewood resident Michael Chisholm. "Curious about composting? Learn composting basics followed by an interactive Q&A discussion," according to the City of Englewood. Next up, April 1 marks the launch of the Sustainability Grant, offering up to $500 for local sustainability projects, an effort to nurture and finance green initiatives within the community.
Business owners have an opportunity to get in on the action, too, with the Waste Wise on the Green event on April 14. Aimed at educating on water resources and eco-friendly business practices, speakers from A1 Organics, IRecycleHere, and the State of Colorado's C3 program will share insights. Topics include organics recycling, e-recycling, and responsible disposal of electronic waste, alongside discussions on business recycling programs and grants.
Meanwhile, those looking to contribute to water conservation can attend the Rain Barrel Workshop on April 16. Participants will come away with their rain barrel kit and the knowledge to install it properly at home. With the $60 registration fee, "a 55-gallon rain barrel, and connector kit," plus an installation guide are provided. It's a practical step for residents to reduce their ecological footprint and manage stormwater runoff more efficiently, as per the City of Englewood.
Don't miss the South Platte Renew's River Clean-Up on April 26, which is not just about keeping the area tidy, but also safeguarding public health and our water sources from pollution. The first 100 people who register by April 3 get a free t-shirt, so make sure to sign up early. To cap off the month, the Earth Day Celebration will be held at the Civic Center piazza, featuring music, vendors, tree giveaways, and activities for kids, a festive wrap-up to a month of environmental consciousness.
