An industrial accident claimed the life of an individual at a rock quarry in southwest Charlotte yesterday morning. The Charlotte Fire Department confirmed the fatal incident occurred at the Martin Marietta quarry located in the 11000 block of Texland Boulevard, as reported by WSOCTV. First responders arrived on the scene shortly before 11 a.m. following the accident.
A simultaneous report by WCCB Charlotte located the incident specifically at Martin Marietta’s Arrowood Quarry on Texland Boulevard near Westinghouse Boulevard. Unfortunately, details regarding the circumstances of the accident remain unclear, with Charlotte Fire indicating an ongoing investigation conducted by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
In addition to local fire services, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have taken the helm of the investigation to determine the cause of the tragic occurrence. WBTV reported that police are currently heading the probe into the fatality at the quarry. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
As of now, the Martin Marietta company has not released a statement regarding the accident, and efforts to understand the sequence of events leading up to the accident are underway.
