The City of Fayetteville is working to transform its downtown into an arts-focused area with improved walkability and public art. The city is collaborating with consultant firm Cooper Carry to develop plans for the Lee Street corridor. Residents are invited to a community workshop on March 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 240 South Glynn Street, as mentioned by the City of Fayetteville.
The effort to reshape Fayetteville's downtown district is supported by the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Communities Initiative program. According to Fayetteville's Director of Community Development, David Rast, "The 2021 ‘Moving Fayetteville Forward’ LCI study included a significant amount of public input and led to a total revamp of our zoning ordinances," as reported by the City of Fayetteville.
The Cooper Carry team is working on a project to enhance downtown Fayetteville, focusing on public spaces, mobility, and support for local businesses and the arts. Project manager Allison Bickers stated, "We think this is the perfect time to create a more walkable downtown that supports small businesses, elevates creative uses, and augments what the City has been doing in their urban core." The team is collaborating with Croy Engineering and Walnut Street Creative to improve transportation patterns and thematic branding. Updates on the project are available on the City of Fayetteville’s website and social media.
