Ferris State University has begun construction on a new residence hall next to Top Taggart Field, offering an immersive football viewing experience. The $38 million, four-story building will feature 280 beds and community spaces, with plans to enhance campus living by providing students with views of the football field directly from their dorm rooms, reported WZZM 13.
This new housing project is Ferris State's first new dorm since 2017. It is a multipurpose residence hall attached to the stadium, distinct among Michigan's public universities. The building will include educational amenities and entertainment options, such as study areas, a marketplace, and lounges that open directly to the stadium, according to information obtained by Ferris State University. President Bill Pink emphasized the desire to enhance the academic and living standards by stating, "We’re reimagining campus living, ensuring our students have modern, comfortable spaces that meet their needs and enhance their college experience."
Contrary to some expectations, the new dormitory will not be exclusively for student-athletes, it will cater to the general student body, with the prospect of witnessing the university's esteemed Bulldogs in action, detailed by FOX 17 Online. Scheduled for completion in August 2026, the project is part of a larger range of planned upgrades to Ferris State's campus facilities.
Collaborating with Michigan-based firms, INTEGRATED design SOLUTIONS and Granger Construction, the project is tapping into local expertise this design and architectural duo has previously worked on esteemed projects at other Michigan universities, with Granger Construction receiving industry accolades for its execution of Grand Rapids Community College's Secchia Piazza, as reported by Ferris State University. Investment in the project will be managed through the issuing of bonds, following the legacy where North Hall was the last residence hall introduced in 2017 and has since become a central student hub on campus.
