A fire erupted in a Van Nuys neighborhood on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of at least one bird and injuring others. The Los Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to a blaze that had ignited in the 7800 block of Zombar Avenue at around 11:20 a.m., KTLA reports. Firefighters arrived to find a shed fully engaged in flames behind a two-story home, the fire threatening to spread to adjacent residences.
The initial alert from the LAFD detailed that the fire could have reached the attic of one home, and downed power lines were also reported on nearby Stagg Street. Video from the LAFD website illustrated the severity of the situation with footage of dark smoke rising into the sky. Firefighters fought the fire across multiple fronts to contain and extinguish it.
A total of 42 firefighters managed to extinguish both the shed and the attic fire in just 36 minutes, as stated in the LAFD's update, which credited the swift response and coordination of fire crews for preventing further destruction and injury. "No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported," according to KTLA.
