Flagstaff's finest educators are stepping into the spotlight with the announcement of the 2025 Teacher of the Year finalists. In a statement obtained by Coconino County, Superintendent of Schools, Cheryl Mango-Paget, extended congratulations to those who stand as examples of excellence in teaching from a pool of 24 nominees for Teacher of the Year and five for Rookie Teacher of the Year.
The winners are set to be revealed at the 12th Annual Coconino County Teacher of the Year Awards on April 17, slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the High Country Conference Center. The event promises not only to recognize the Teacher and Rookie Teacher of the Year but also to variably honor Ambassadors for Excellence as runners-up. One outstanding educator will even have the opportunity to drive away in a leased vehicle for a year, provided by Findlay Toyota Flagstaff as part of their commitment to the community.
Finalists this year for Teacher of the Year include Joy Burner from DeMiguel Elementary School, Dawn Quamahongnewa from Leupp Elementary School, and Francy Solarte Soto from Coconino High School. On the Rookie Teacher front, Lesley Littlefield from Knoles Elementary School, Kristi Marshall from Thomas Elementary School, and Ella Stoll from Coconino High School have been acknowledged for their exceptional starts in the educational field.
Every finalist will not only receive a cash prize, but also an automatic nomination for the Arizona Teacher of the Year Award, among various other accolades. The event is emanating community solidarity through the support of local businesses and sponsors such as Findlay Toyota Flagstaff, APS, and the Coconino County Board of Supervisors. A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be announced, surprising one educator for their enduring legacy.
