A road rage confrontation in Flagstaff, involving a Tesla and a Chevrolet Cavalier, escalated into what Flagstaff Police have described as "a violent encounter." The incident took place near Butler Avenue and Milton Road and continued along Route 66, around 12:30 p.m. on March 19. The driver of the Cavalier, identified as Robert Artherton, 33, of Flagstaff, was arrested in connection with the event, as reported by 12 News.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, after Artherton pulled in front of the Tesla, causing both vehicles to stop, he exited his vehicle and a confrontation ensued. "The driver of the Cavalier, later identified as Robert Artherton, 33, of Flagstaff, drove in front of the Tesla, causing both vehicles to stop in the roadway," read a portion of the statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. Both parties involved alleged the incident was triggered by "driving behaviors, honking, and disorderly hand gestures." Minor injuries were reported by both drivers.
The identity of the Tesla driver has not been released and there is no word on whether they are facing charges. "At the time of the investigation no additional details regarding the motives behind the incident were provided," the Flagstaff Police Department mentioned in a news release, according to 12 News.
Artherton was cited for disorderly conduct, assault, and aggressive driving "in lieu of detention," as he needed medical care for an injury to his hand, as per 12 News. The recent incident with Tesla comes amidst broader controversies with the company and its owner, Elon Musk, due to Musk’s involvement in the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, and related protests outside Tesla dealerships.
