Former Eaton County Sheriff's Office corrections officer Ethan Eversman, 25, will serve a 210-month term in federal prison for his crimes related to distributing child pornography. Eversman's conviction comes as the result of a federal case that unveiled his solicitation of explicit materials from a minor and his subsequent dissemination of those materials online.
Eversman engaged with a 15-year-old child from New York, convincing the minor to create and send sexually explicit videos in May 2024, as reported by WWMT. In June, two videos were sent to another individual via an online platform while Eversman continued his role within the law enforcement system.
The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed the sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of Eversman's violation of trust and the importance of ethical integrity within law enforcement. "Today's sentencing of Ethan Eversman, a former Corrections Deputy, reinforces the FBI’s unwavering commitment to enforcing the highest standards of integrity in law enforcement," stated Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan.
As detailed by the Department of Justice, the collaborative effort between the FBI, Michigan State Police, and various prosecutors and law enforcement agencies underscores a unified front working diligently to apprehend and prosecute those taking advantage of minors. The FBI and Michigan State Police investigated the case, which led to prosecution by Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan Roth.
