Sharif Ahmad Jasmine, a Fort Worth man, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child. As reported by the Collin County District Attorney's Office, the 26-year-old exploited a child over three years, beginning when the victim was just 10 years old. His predatory behavior came to light following the discovery of explicit social media messages and the solicitation of sexually explicit material from the minor.
The investigation, led by McKinney Police Department Sergeant Bruce Tyner, delved into the grim details of manipulation and exploitation. Jasmine wielded access to Wi-Fi services as a coercive tool, leveraging it to receive explicit content from the child. Failing to meet his demands resulted in threats to disconnect the phone. The conviction was secured after the jury heard the harrowing testimony from the victim and insights from law enforcement and child advocacy experts.
District Attorney Greg Willis underscored the relentless pursuit of justice, stating, "His guilt was clear, and so was Collin County’s determination to hunt him down and bring him to trial." The trial was not without drama, as Jasmine cut off his ankle monitor in the courthouse parking lot and went on the lam on the morning his trial was set to begin. He was captured after a month-long manhunt led by Collin County Sheriff’s Deputy Reid Golson.
In addition to the sexual abuse charges, the prosecutors brought to light Jasmine’s previous brushes with the law, including domestic violence incidents and felony probation. The sentence handed down by Judge Carmen Rivera-Worley reflects Jasmine's unrepentant pattern of abuse. Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Alex Haynes and Charles Brazell prosecuted the case, with aid from DA Investigators Greg Bowers and Michael Owens, and Victim Assistance Coordinators Valerie Miller, Dixie Harden, Jill Moore, and Melissa White.
