An incident at the Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles has led to the hospitalization of four deputies after they were attacked by multiple inmates. The event, which occurred during "a routine inmate movement", was confirmed by both the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Homicide Bureau. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Department late Sunday night, assisting deputies intervened to halt the assault after one deputy was overpowered by several inmates.
Details surrounding how many inmates were involved have not been released; nonetheless, all of them were detained following the altercation. As disclosed in a statement given by the Homicide Bureau, the four injured deputies were taken to a local hospital for assessment and treatment. The deputies have since been treated and released, with one sustaining a puncture wound but expected to make a full recovery.
The Sheriff’s Department also informed that a "jail-made" weapon used in the attack was found at the site. In line with the department's protocol regarding on-duty injuries that necessitate hospital care, the Homicide Bureau has taken charge of the criminal investigation and will be conducting an administrative review of the incident.
