Four teenagers have been arrested in Memphis, Tennessee, following a brazen daylight robbery that escalated into a high-speed car chase ending in a crash. According to a Facebook post by the Memphis Police Department, the incident occurred yesterday, when victims intending to purchase a car listed on Facebook Marketplace were ambushed in the 2900 block of Clearbrook Street.
The victims were lured under the guise of a legitimate transaction; however, upon arrival, they were confronted by the suspects, who were identified as four Black males and were forcibly taken to an abandoned residence where the suspects seized their Ford Focus. Responding officers distributed a lookout notification for the stolen vehicle, which was spotted by Mount Moriah Station Task Force officers on Highway 385 near Ridgeway. When they tried to stop the car, the teenage driver didn't comply, and a pursuit ensued. That's when the suspects crashed into a tree in the 2800 block of Mendenhall and tried to escape on foot but were subsequently apprehended.
All four suspects, aged between 16 and 17, were transported to LeBonheur Hospital as a precaution due to the crash, sustaining non-critical injuries, the statement detailed. The charges they face include Especially Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Robbery, with one of the 16-year-olds and the 17-year-old also being charged with Evading Arrest. The youngest among them faces an additional charge of Intentionally Evading in an Automobile.
