Residents in Plymouth looking for ways to bolster their personal safety have an opportunity to do so—at no cost. The City of Plymouth is hosting a free public safety educational class titled “Safeguarding Yourself” from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 8. The session will take place at the Plymouth Community Center, located at 14800 34th Ave. N. It is an event aimed at helping attendees learn how to prevent crimes, avoid scams, handle fire safely, prepare for emergencies, and more.
In an effort to promote community well-being, the class will be instructed by knowledgeable staff from the Plymouth Public Safety Department. Community Relations Officer Kasey Abukar emphasized the benefits of the session, saying, “This is a great opportunity for adults to brush up on their general safety knowledge.” According to the announcement by the City of Plymouth, Abukar hopes that “by the end of the class, we hope individuals leave feeling like they can better protect themselves in various situations and feel more secure in their everyday lives.”
The class is designed with adults in mind and requires participants to be 18 years or older. However, space is somewhat limited, accommodating up to 35 individuals. To secure a spot in the class, potential participants should note that registration, while free, is mandatory.
The initiative by the City of Plymouth comes as communities increasingly recognize the importance of personal safety and self-reliance in emergencies. Attendees are expected to gain valuable knowledge that could make a substantial difference in the face of common hazards. Those interested in joining the class should move quickly to register, as these free classes often fill up fast due to their practical relevance and the absence of a participation fee.
