Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has made several key judicial appointments to the Superior Court, State Court, and the Solicitor General position, filling vacancies across multiple circuits, as announced in the Governor's Office press release.
Judge Nichole Carswell, formerly a juvenile court judge and the presiding judge of the Mountain Judicial Circuit Family Dependency Treatment Court, will move to the Mountain Circuit Superior Court. This vacancy followed Judge Chan Caudell's retirement. Judge Carlton "Hobbie" Jones III, who previously served as probate judge in Rabun County, will fill the Superior Court vacancy left by Judge Rusty Smith's passing. James “Jay” Crowe, Jr., who has served as a solicitor general and local law practice leader, has been appointed to the State Court in Worth County. This position became available after Judge Ralph Powell was appointed to the Superior Court of the Tifton Judicial Circuit, as per the same release.
Ryan English, who has nearly a decade of service in the district attorney's office, has been appointed Solicitor General of Houston County. This vacancy followed Judge Amy Smith's promotion to the Superior Court of the Houston Judicial Circuit.
