Germantown is rallying behind its police force with the creation of the Germantown Police Benevolent Association (GPBA), a non-profit established to support local law enforcement through community and charitable efforts. Mayor Mike Palazzolo unveiled the initiative, emphasizing the importance of public safety as a community partnership. "Our community has always stood behind the men and women of the Germantown Police Department," Mayor Palazzolo said, according to a recent article by the City of Germantown's website.
The GPBA, a 501(c)(3) organization, aims at promoting community-friendly initiatives and providing essential support for officers in need. Some of their planned endeavors include maintaining an "Officer Down Fund" to financially aid injured personnel and the families of fallen officers. The non-profit is plowing ahead with its first fundraiser, a BBQ Pork Butt Fundraiser, founded by notable locals Joanna and Bob Young. The smoked meats, prepped by championship pitmasters, are up for grabs on April 12 at the Pickering Center. "One of the first fundraising efforts for the GPBA is a BBQ Pork Butt Fundraiser—and trust me, you don’t want to miss this!" Mayor Palazzolo enthused in a statement obtained by the City of Germantown's news release.
For those looking to make a direct impact, donations to the GPBA are accepted at any Paragon Bank branch and soon via online platforms. LiveGiveMidsouth will host the online donation system, further simplifying contributions for the local community. All proceeds from fundraising efforts like the mouth-watering BBQ event will funnel directly to support officers facing adversity. "All proceeds go toward supporting our local officers in need," the mayor assured in the previously mentioned announcement.
The mayor's office strongly encourages involvement from Germantown's residents. Orders for the BBQ can be placed online until April 7, and they can be picked up on the 12th from 4 to 9 p.m. at the aforementioned location. For those willing to extend support beyond their taste buds, Joanna Young can be contacted at (901) 517-3162 for more information on the fundraiser. Mayor Palazzolo's closing words serve as a reminder of the duty to assist those who protect, "It’s a simple but meaningful way to give back to those who serve and protect us every day," as noted by the city's official website.
